Job Summary

CSX, a Fortune 250 transportation company, is hiring a Sr. Analyst, Finance in Jacksonville, Florida. The role serves as a consultative partner to business leaders, analyzing complex business issues, developing fact‑based recommendations, influencing outcomes, and driving implementation of processes that improve financial performance. The position also mentors junior finance employees and requires analytical, intellectually curious, detail‑oriented, and communicative individuals. Prior railroad experience is not required, but a willingness to learn and think critically is essential.

Primary

Activities and Responsibilities
  • Analyze complex business issues including commercial and operating proposals, business segment profitability, marketing and pricing initiatives, proposed capital investments, capacity management, asset utilization, productivity initiatives, labor negotiations, and supplier contracts.
  • Develop and utilize financial models to quantify benefits and drive sound economic trade‑off decisions related to alternative commercial or operating strategies.
  • Guide the development of short‑ and long‑term forecasts, plans, and strategies; measure business units/company performance; provide budget variance explanations; develop and drive implementation of action plans to address identified issues.
  • Benchmark internal and external business practices, processes, and strategies.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all key business partners to facilitate turning financial information into tangible actions.
  • Consult with internal business leaders to develop financial analyses and strategies to maximize enterprise value.
  • Effectively communicate and influence the adoption of recommendations and strategies that drive financial performance.
  • Work autonomously in an individual contributor role and informally coach, train, and develop junior‑level Finance employees.
  • Perform miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or 4‑year Degree.
  • 2 or more years of experience in an analytical role in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Business Management, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Systems, Engineering, or related fields.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate Degree.
  • 4 or more years of experience in a Finance role with responsibility for the financial analysis of key business issues including capital expenditures, business segment profitability, and productivity initiatives, and experience interacting with Executive level leadership.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of financial concepts, discounted cash flow models, and statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of cost allocation methodologies and the application of technology for decision support systems.
  • Analytical, quantitative, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to build working relationships at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to independently participate in and lead complex cross‑functional project teams, including directing or influencing the direction of activities.
  • Ability to understand, create, maintain, and modify complex financial models.
