We are seeking an experienced Construction Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations for a project‑driven construction organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and effective job cost management while partnering closely with operations, project managers, and executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Accounting Operations- Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes
- Ensure accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Maintain and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Oversee job cost accounting, including project setup, budgets, cost codes, and change orders
- Review and analyze Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition
- Monitor project profitability, cost variances, and margin trends
- Partner with Project Managers to ensure accurate job cost tracking and financial forecasting
- Prepare and present financial reports, analysis, and insights to leadership
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes
- Manage cash flow planning, projections, and working capital needs Audit, Tax & Compliance
- Coordinate and support external audits, tax filings, and regulatory requirements
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, contractual requirements, and industry best practices
- Support insurance, bonding, and lender reporting as needed
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
- Establish scalable processes to support business growth
- Drive continuous improvement in systems, controls, and reporting
- Partner with operations, executive leadership, and external advisors on strategic initiatives
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience,
including construction accounting - Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP, and percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition
- Prior experience in a Controller or Accounting Manager role
- Proficiency with construction accounting systems and ERP platforms
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving abilities
- Experience in commercial or heavy civil construction
- High‑impact leadership role within a growing construction organization
- Direct partnership with executive leadership and operations teams
