Construction Controller

We are seeking an experienced Construction Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations for a project‑driven construction organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and effective job cost management while partnering closely with operations, project managers, and executive leadership.

• Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes
• Ensure accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Maintain and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls

• Oversee job cost accounting, including project setup, budgets, cost codes, and change orders
• Review and analyze Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition
• Monitor project profitability, cost variances, and margin trends
• Partner with Project Managers to ensure accurate job cost tracking and financial forecasting

• Prepare and present financial reports, analysis, and insights to leadership
• Lead budgeting and forecasting processes
• Manage cash flow planning, projections, and working capital needs Audit, Tax & Compliance
  • Coordinate and support external audits, tax filings, and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, contractual requirements, and industry best practices
  • Support insurance, bonding, and lender reporting as needed
  Leadership & Process Improvement
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
  • Establish scalable processes to support business growth
  • Drive continuous improvement in systems, controls, and reporting
  • Partner with operations, executive leadership, and external advisors on strategic initiatives
  Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience,
    including construction accounting
  • Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP, and percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition
  • Prior experience in a Controller or Accounting Manager role
  • Proficiency with construction accounting systems and ERP platforms
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving abilities
  Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in commercial or heavy civil construction
