Eligibility Specialist I (Position #) – Children and Families Department – Salary $1,392.96 bi‑weekly ($36,216.96 annually).

Responsibilities- Interview applicants to verify information needed for eligibility for Food Assistance, Medicaid, and Cash Assistance.
- Learn and apply numerous state and federal program regulations through intensive training and ongoing education.
- Instruct clients in completing forms and review applications for completeness and accuracy.
- Determine program eligibility using a computer‑based eligibility system.
- Research information from applicants to confirm eligibility status.
- Report cases involving identity theft or fraud.
- Advise clients of deadlines, time frames, and required actions.
- Follow up with clients who do not meet required actions within the time frame.
- Maintain multiple electronic files and conduct regular reviews and updates.
- Document all communications and contacts with clients.
- Manage an electronic caseload varying with community needs, ensuring accuracy and timeliness per federal and state regulations.
- Compute and authorize government assistance benefits based on financial and family status; explain monthly benefit amounts to customers.
- Stay current with changes in rules, laws, and procedures affecting timeliness and accuracy.
- Attend face‑to‑face contact with clients as required.
- Two years or more of customer service, interviewing, recruiting, investigating, accounting, processing insurance policies, or determining eligibility; or an associate degree or higher from an accredited college/university; or 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours may substitute for the experience. (Attach required education, certification, or licensure when applying.)
- Ability to attend an 8‑12 week mandatory training course.
- All eligible candidates must complete a skills assessment within three days of receiving the assessment link.
- Typing (TT) – test of typing speed and accuracy.
- General Aptitude Mobile Evaluation (GAME) – test of critical thinking, problem‑solving, attention to detail, and learning new information.
- Employee Personality Profile (EPP) – test of personality traits.
- Eligible candidates may be offered telework after nine months of employment, completion of training, and meeting performance expectations.
- Language proficiency may be considered as determined by agency needs.
- Incumbents may be asked to work during emergencies or natural disasters.
- Apply laws, rules, and regulations governing eligibility and grant determination for multiple government assistance programs.
- Review images of client documents to make eligibility determinations.
- Communicate with others to obtain and verify eligibility information.
- Detect and evaluate potential fraudulent situations.
- Analyze and interpret written, numerical, and verbal data from various sources.
- Enter data accurately into a computerized system.
- Navigate computer screens, complete and review basic computer documents and other forms.
- Plan and organize caseload to ensure compliance with eligibility and timeliness regulations.
- Read, understand, and apply detailed regulations and policy directives.
- Perform mathematical computations accurately and rapidly.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the public and staff.
- Use computers and related software packages.
- Follow written and oral directions and instructions.
- Include supervisor names and phone numbers for all periods of employment.
- Account for and explain any gaps in employment to prevent delays.
- Provide verifiable experience, education, training, knowledge, skills, and abilities and responses to pre‑qualifying questions meeting the minimum qualifications.
