Duties
* You will direct public information, community relations, and command information programs to ensure conformance with policies and procedures.
* You will identify communication needs to develop informational materials that inform audiences of the agencies policies, programs, services, and activities.
* You will supervise employees in the execution of public affairs matters.
* You will maintain effective relationships with representatives of the local and national media as well as military and civilian personnel at all levels of the command and other activities.

* Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
* Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
* Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
* This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
* Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR . Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Managing oversight of day to day responsibilities and manning requirements for public affairs team;
2) Providing policy development, implementation, and execution in support of public affairs communication strategies, missions, goals, and objectives;
3) Building and maintaining close working relationships with key influencers of various trade and professional associations;
4) Providing communication counsel and public affairs leadership in editing and releasing of informational materials such as press releases, videos, photographs, stories, interviews, speeches, key leader talking points, etc. (

Position is sedentary, with some walking, bending, negotiating shipboard ladders and aircraft, light lifting, night and weekend work. Travel is required to periodically visit commands within the Commander's AOR to help establish public affairs programs, conduct liaison and training, and to respond to emergent situations. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is normally conducted in an office setting; however, incumbent may be required to inspect field sites. Exposure to inclement weather conditions, as well as areas infested with snakes and reptiles may also be factors of the work environment. May occasionally wear protective equipment, including respirators, hearing protection, and various types of protective clothing during walk-through surveys/inspections.
