Investigator-Auditor - Social Security Beneficiaries Payee Team

Salary: $54,569 - $63,664 annually

Full-time, non-exempt position

Disability Rights Florida is accepting applications for an Investigator-Auditor for the Miami, Jacksonville, and Tampa, Florida areas.

The Social Security Representative Payee Program provides financial management for beneficiaries that receive payment under the various Social Security programs where the beneficiary is incapable of managing their benefit. Disability Rights Florida has been charged with conducting on-site reviews at a variety of different facilities and homes of beneficiaries. The program will refer beneficiaries to other programs or services considered appropriate.

The Investigator-Auditor follows specific guidelines and protocols as set forth by the Social Security Administration to ensure the health and well-being of the beneficiaries are adhered too.

All applicants to this position must be able to pass the required government background clearance, be able to travel at least 50% of the time and work from home with great time management skills.
Suitability clearance is a condition of employment.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Bilingual candidates are preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts site visits to interview representative payees and beneficiaries, review confidential and private records, document observations and collect evidence and information of value.
  • Reviews worksites and housing facilities for possible health and safety violations.
  • Reviews and analyzes financial records to assess violations or potential incidents of mismanagement of beneficiary funds.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports detailing the investigation, findings and recommendations.
  • Develops corrective action plans to assist representative payees to conform to the requirements specified by the Social Security Administration Commissioner.
  • Conducts investigations on a variety of Social Security representative payees for possible financial mismanagement or financial exploitation.
  • Refers beneficiaries to other programs or services considered appropriate.
  • Conducts financial audits during investigations and interviews beneficiaries, guardians and third-parties.
  • Prepares and completes accurate and timely reports regarding reviews, hours worked, travel and other administrative reports.
  • Participates in team meetings, organizational events and works to enhance the visibility of the organization and further the rights of individuals with disabilities.
Required Qualifications
  • Education equivalent to a four-year undergraduate degree required. Government clearance by the United States Government Office of Personnel Management is required for this position.
  • Valid state issued identification required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
  • This position will require working at non-standard work places such as state institutions, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and group homes. The incumbent may be required to work at a seated station for several hours each day to access the use of computers, phones and related information technology.
  • Must be able to work from home with great time management skills.
  • Some lifting and carrying of files up to 10 pounds required. Must be able to transport oneself to work-related meetings, centers and offices.
  • Required to travel more than 50% of the time for out of town site reviews, educational visits, trainings or outreach activities.
