Clinical Laboratory Scientist

About the Position: This position is located at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, Florida in the Clinical Laboratory Section working in a single occupant office and with attached microbiology section.

Hours of work between the hours 07:00-17:00.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD.

A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

• Supervise the reporting of infectious diseases to comply with state regulations.
• Resolve customer's complaints and troubleshoot technical problems.
• Ensure the safe performance of bacteriology studies in a community hospital bacteriology lab.
• Train, education, and assess the performance of medical lab tech who work in the microbiology lab.
• Conduct the administrative and quality review to maintain accreditation within the lab.
• Oversee and evaluate the quality of testing and continuous improvement of technical laboratory services across Microbiology, Parasitology, Virology, Mycology, and Molecular Biology.
• Plan and conduct training for laboratory staff, students, and medical officers on complex test procedures and clinical interpretation.
• Direct the collection and monitoring of quality metrics, including variance reports, incident logs, inspection data, and customer feedback, to identify and implement laboratory improvement programs.
• Evaluate the adequacy of equipment and personnel performance while ensuring strict adherence to Infection Control guidelines.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• Applicants must be able to fulfill non-privileged professional credential requirements.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position requires shift work/on-call to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
