Resident Psychology

Overview

Position is a one year post-doctoral fellowship in Trauma Psychology. In a multidisciplinary format and under the clinical supervision of the licensed psychologists assigned to the Division of Acute Care Surgery/Trauma, performs patient assessments, treatment planning, psychotherapy, discharge planning, linking, and advocacy. Provides consultation to other medical services. Actively pursues licensure. Serves as clinical resource to other staff. Provides education to community.

  Education:
  
  Ph.D. with specific course work in Psychology or a related field.

  • Must be detail-oriented and possess strong oral and written communication and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Bio-Psychosocial and mental status evaluation techniques; suicide risk factors; psychiatric diagnosis; bases of human behavior; theory and practice of psychotherapy; crisis intervention techniques; effects of psychotropic medications; ethical and legal responsibilities including but not limited to confidentiality and patient rights and requirements for continued licensure.
• Required Licensure/
  
  Certifications:
  
  Completion of Aggression Control Techniques training by hire date or within probationary period.
• Required Experience: One to two (1-2) years mental health clinical internship or equivalent.
• Preferred Experience: Exposure and/or experience in rehabilitation psychology, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and other medical conditions and disabilities. Employment or practicum experience providing evaluations and psychotherapy in an acute care medical facility.
