Overview
The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of clinical and administrative duties including preparing patients for medical examination, charting medical histories, maintaining medical records, scheduling patient appointments, and other clerical tasks. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from clinical services.
Responsibilities- Performs physical examination preparations, point of care testing, vital signs, vaccines, phlebotomy, drug administration including injections, prescription verification with physician’s orders, minor surgery assists, and bio-hazard waste disposal.
- Fulfills environmental responsibilities including restocking and cleaning exam/procedure rooms to maintain infection control, cleaning the sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance programs and keeping appropriate records.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities including sending/receiving patient medical records, prior authorizations, referral information, etc., completing forms/requisitions, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics, and managing and updating charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately.
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities including scheduling and patient flow, assisting patients for exam preparation, collecting patient history, charting, and relaying instructions to patients.
- Adheres to OSHA guidelines, quality control methods, and the medical assistant scope of practice.
High School Diploma/Equivalent is required.
1 year of experience providing direct care as a medical assistant or in a related role in a healthcare setting.

Graduate of a medical assistant program from a formal school or program obtaining a certification of registration. The program must have hands‑on practical experience as part of the curriculum.
PreferencesSuccessful completion of a formal Medical Assistant program from an accredited school or an Associate’s Degree and / or successful completion of a formal patient care technician (PCT) program from an approved program and / or successful completion of a formal emergency medical technician (EMT) program and / or successful completion of a formal paramedic program.
