The outpatient oncology social worker plays a vital role in supporting patients and their families throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Social workers in our Cancer Center provide assessments, emotional support, counseling, education, and facilitate support groups/programs to help patients cope with the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
The licensed clinical social worker collaborates with a multidisciplinary team working to exceed patient expectations. Additionally, they assist with resource coordination, including housing, transportation, insurance, and access to community services, while advocating for the patient's overall well-being and quality of life. As a member of the outpatient social work team, you will have access to a strong team of clinical social workers, committee and special project opportunities, serve as a preceptor in our internship and fellowship program, and work towards obtaining academic rank.
QualificationsTo be considered for this position, you must have a master’s degree in social work and two years' supervised therapy experience in behavioral health and/or medical social work including diagnostic assessment, individual, group, and family therapy.
Licensure / Certifications- Licensure to practice independently at the clinical level as required by applicable state requirements (LCSW, LICSW).
- Clinical oncology experience is preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of mental illness, personality development, knowledge of the types of treatment, and skills in conducting individual, group, and family therapy.
- Knowledge of adjustment to medical diagnoses and chronic disease.
- Strong communication skills are needed to interact with patients, patient's family members, multi- disciplinary team, community agencies, and other resources.
- Must have psychosocial diagnostic skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and in written form.
