The Catering Bartender is part of the events and catering team at the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville. This position ensures smooth and professional food and beverage service during events and catering with an emphasis on high standards in appearance, hospitality, and customer satisfaction. Pay is hourly and is scalable based on size and scope of event, paid biweekly. Pay and tips are paid out on a regular bi‑weekly payroll schedule.
Responsibilities- Mix drinks using an extensive range of ingredients including liquor, bitters, soda, water, sugar, and fruits, including standard and unique drinks.
- Keep bar area clean, safe, and organized.
- Provide great customer service while maintaining control of the bar, serving drinks, and managing the financials.
- Mix all drinks based on standard serving sizes, keeping drink costs within minimum limits.
- Collect payment for drinks served, provide change, balance cash receipts, and maintain an accurate drawer throughout events.
- Exercise good judgement to monitor patrons for over consumption and handle cash.
- Cash out the cash drawer, ensuring it balances with the POS system and note discrepancies.
- Check identification to verify legal age requirements for all customers.
- Keep a well-stocked bar with an adequate supply of liquor, beer, wine, mixers, ice, napkins, straws, glassware, and other accessories.
- Slice, pit, and prepare fruit garnishes for drinks.
- Complete alcohol inventories and communicate resupply requests to the Venue Coordinator.
- Operate POS and cash register as required.
- Receive and resolve complaints concerning food, beverage, and service, reporting concerns to supervisors.
- Follow operational policies, procedures, and practices.
- Adhere to food and beverage practices consistent with health and safety requirements (recipes, portions, temperatures, presentation).
- Report all safety, deficiency, and maintenance concerns.
- Maintain back‑of‑house inventory, stock supplies, and report low inventory.
- Assist with event and catering loading/unloading, setup, execution, and clean up.
- Attend all pre‑shift meetings to ensure smooth events.
- Ensure events start service on time per the event plan.
- Inspect equipment before and after events.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance and attention to detail.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Cannot be a current UNF student for this position type.
- Must be 21 or over.
- A minimum of 1‑year previous relevant experience in hospitality.
- Good interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Flexible schedule: willing to work days, evenings, weekends as needed.
- Reliable transportation and ability to work on‑site and off‑site events.
- Physical ability to walk, stand, sit, reach, kneel for long periods and lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Serv Safe Food Handler Certification required as well as a background check.
This position requires a background check, and in conjunction with the University’s policy, may also require a credit check. The holder of this position is designated a Responsible Employee pursuant to Title IX.
