Job Summary

The Operations Specialist After hours position works Friday - Monday. This schedule is four 8-hour days on Friday and Monday and 12-hour days on Saturday and Sunday, or the candidate may choose to work four 10-hour days. This nonexempt position is responsible for maintaining after-hours and weekend operations on behalf of the company by taking complete responsibility to ensure that all customer requirements are fully met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complete accurate and timely scheduling and dispatching of trucks to ensure that the flow of product in and out meets customer demands.
  • Negotiate with transportation providers to obtain the best rates and service.
  • Monitor shipments from pickup through delivery so that accurate, up-to-date information can be provided regarding any shipment (track & trace).
  • Provide constant communications of service issues to appropriate personnel and departments, both internal and external.
  • Update and maintain transportation management and operations system.
  • Prioritize tasks and workload to focus on issues that directly impact quality and service performance.
  • Adhere to company standards on customer satisfaction, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Proactively identify problems and swiftly implement the appropriate solutions.
  • Provide complex problem resolution and guidance to others.
  • Utilize specialized industry and company computer systems and procedures, reference materials/documentation and personal industry knowledge to process client shipments.
  • Maintain regular, timely, and consistent attendance at work.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
  • Consistently demonstrate professional, respectful behavior to all.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • AS400 experience
  • Proficient with computer and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with carriers and drivers
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to seek alternative solutions
  • Self-directed, displays initiative and can work independently
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Understands the basic concept of supply chain
  • Team player with proven ability to work under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent follow-up
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral
  • Must be fluent in English
Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma/GED required. College degree highly preferred.
  • Supply chain; logistics; or transportation industry experience is preferred.
