Platform Engineer, Systems Engineering

Job Purpose

Intercontinental Exchange presents a unique opportunity for a full-time Engineer to join a team responsible for ICE Open Shift container platform. The Engineer will drive enablement and adoption to migrate high‑performant and critical applications into a microservices model utilizing container technologies by working closely with our development and engineering teams. This individual works as part of a results‑oriented, service‑delivery team and assists developers, configuration analysts, release engineers, developers, and operations teams.

Additionally, the Engineer performs root cause analysis of problems, selects and implements automation tools, and actively participates in deeply technical discourse.

• Build, support, and maintain Kubernetes and Open Shift platform infrastructure
• Provide technical analysis, resolve problems, propose, and implement solutions
• Provide support to, and coordinate with developers, operations staff, release engineers, and end‑users
• Educate and mentor platform consumers, team members and operations staff
• Participate in a weekly on‑call rotation for after‑hours support
• Respond to and assist in production operations in a 24/7 environment
• Troubleshoot platform issues and underlying configuration
• Create, maintain, and support Infrastructure‑as‑Code for Kubernetes Platform

• Degree in computer science/engineering discipline or equivalent experience in platform engineering.
• Understanding of major Kubernetes components and familiarity with Kubernetes concepts
• Horizontal and vertical scaling for performance and high availability
• Understanding of platform and application observability (tracing, logging metrics)
• Comprehension of top‑tier analytics and problem solving
• Ability to work in a service‑oriented team environment
• Project Management, organization, and time management
• Customer focused, and dedicated to the best possible user experience
• Communicate effectively with both technical and business resources

• Experience with self‑managed Kubernetes and/or Open Shift
• Experience with Open Shift deployments on‑prem and in commercial clouds
• Experience with Kubernetes policy engines, e.g. Kyverno
• Experience with Docker and/or Podman
• Build automation and configuration management
• Advanced scripting experience (Python, Bash, Power Shell, YAML)
• Experience with configuration management tools e.g. Ansible, Puppet, etc.
• Familiarity with AI toolsets and agentic troubleshooting
