Senior Principal CIAM Architect
The Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) function is responsible for the architecture, strategy, engineering, and operational governance of identity services that support Medtronic's customer-facing digital products and platforms. This team partners across business and technology organizations to deliver secure, scalable, and compliant identity and access solutions that enable external users to access Medtronic products and services.
This Senior Principal CIAM Architect position is based at the Medtronic facility in Mounds View, Minnesota. The role is designated as Onsite, with consideration for candidates located at another U.S.

The Senior Principal CIAM Architect serves as the technical leader for Customer Identity and Access Management capabilities supporting external-facing products and services. This role is responsible for defining architecture strategy, leading solution design and engineering activities, and ensuring operational excellence across CIAM platforms. The individual will partner with business stakeholders, technology teams, and external vendors to deliver secure, scalable identity solutions that align with enterprise standards and business objectives.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, and technical strategy for Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) platforms supporting external users and customer-facing services.
- Define and maintain technology architecture standards, reference models, and design principles for CIAM solutions.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable, secure, and operationally sustainable identity solutions.
- Provide technical leadership for the evaluation, selection, implementation, and enhancement of identity and access management technologies.
- Ensure platform security, availability, performance, monitoring, logging, and operational readiness across CIAM environments.
- Establish and maintain technical, operational, audit, security, and support documentation in accordance with enterprise standards.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, industry trends, and identity standards to drive continuous improvement and future-state architecture planning.
- Collaborate with vendors and service providers to resolve complex issues, assess new capabilities, and support proof-of-concept initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience, or advanced degree with 8+ years of experience in information technology, cybersecurity, software engineering, or related technical disciplines.
- 5+ years of experience serving as a Technical Architect for a Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) or Identity and Access Management (IAM) enterprise platform.
- 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, or supporting identity and access management solutions at enterprise scale.
- 5+ years of experience in information security engineering, cybersecurity engineering, or software development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification or comparable industry-recognized security certification.
- 2+ years of experience as a Product Owner or in a comparable platform ownership role.
- Prior Medtronic experience.
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience developing and implementing large-scale consumer identity and access management solutions.
- Experience leading cross-functional and global teams in complex technology transformation or security initiatives.
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
