Paralegal Job Purpose

This Role is responsible for providing legal support relating to general legal and compliance issues. This position performs paralegal activities to support litigation, compliance, contracts, real estate, and/or regulatory, and other areas as assigned. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity. Work is closely managed.

Essential Responsibilities
  • 30% Responds to requests for additional information from federal, state and local governmental agencies, landlords, vendors, suppliers, and opposing counsel; composes and sends routine correspondence. Handles company subpoena process, including responding to incoming subpoena requests; corresponding with law enforcement personnel and attorneys, and coordinating responses with internal teams. Supports the Legal Department leadership team with special projects, as requested. Provides support for department initiatives with required assistance and substantial oversight from the Legal Department leadership team on items such as day-to-day drafting, document review, and research tasks, or in support of any other team objectives of limited complexities.
  • 20% Acts as a liaison between the legal department, internal clients and third parties, such as outside counsel, as needed. Conducts legal research via internet, internal company systems, and Lexis Nexis. Utilizes Legal software and systems, as needed.
  • 20% Follows and maintains standard operating procedures; establishes and maintains accurate and complete electronic and paper files. Supports additional projects to accomplish department goals, as needed. Responsible for updating litigation status tracker. Gathers legal invoices and electronically submits for payment using Circulus software.
  • 10% Provides support to, and communicates with, outside counsel regarding litigation matters and discovery including drafting discovery responses, preparing exhibits and extrapolating, condensing and redacting data, as needed.
  • 10% Prepares reports and organizes voluminous and/or complicated data as requested for use by internal clients and third parties. Works with department administrative assistants and other team members to complete reports.
  • 10% Ensures summaries are accurate, cohesive and comprehensive and highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the case based on available information; request additional and comparative information as needed.

Qualifications

Required

Education:

High School / GED

Preferred Education: Associate's Degree, Business Administration, Legal Studies, or related field

Relevant

Experience:

0–3 years minimum supervisory experience; no supervisory experience required previously.

Language Requirements: English (Required and Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Required:

  • 0-2 years’ experience providing support regarding legal and compliance issues.
  • Demonstrated excellent PC skills including proficiency with the primary Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple complex projects simultaneously while consistently meeting established deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and critical thinking skills as needed.
  • Ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
  • Experience creating demonstrative exhibits.
  • Ability to extract, condense and analyze pertinent information from company and employee files, correspondence, documents and reports.
  • Intense focus on detail and accuracy of work.
