Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director of Accounting to lead key accounting functions and provide analytical insight across the organization. This role will oversee accrual accounting processes, ensure GAAP compliance, manage monthly close activities, and support financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting knowledge, leadership experience, and a background in healthcare or public accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and review accrual accounting functions including revenue, reserves, treasury, and other income/expense streams.
- Review and approve monthly journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of financial data.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and collaborate with the Controller on policy implementation and technical accounting matters.
- Assist in preparing the annual budget, financial forecasts, and operational statistics in alignment with healthcare regulations.
- Support the successful completion of external audits and coordinate necessary documentation and schedules.
- Prepare and review regular and ad hoc financial reports and analysis for senior leadership.
- Manage and mentor accounting team members, providing guidance on systems, priorities, and workload delegation.
- Oversee training, performance evaluations, and development of staff within the finance function.
- Contribute to process improvements, internal controls, and cross-functional collaboration across departments.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
Experience:
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting and analysis (required)
- 5+ years of leadership or management experience (preferred)
- Experience in public accounting (Manager or Director level) or in a multi-site healthcare organization (preferred)
Certifications:
- CPA (preferred)
Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with ERP systems, especially Great Plains (preferred)
- Familiarity with Next Gen ERP (a plus)
Other Skills:
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Comfortable interacting with professionals at all levels and across departments
- Ability to travel and work onsite as needed
