Operator II, Machine

Job Purpose

Progress Rail is seeking an experienced machine operator for our Jacksonville, FL location. The position is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining machinery for optimization and efficiency.

• Operates assigned machinery, monitors and optimizes for efficiency, does basic maintenance to machines and performs quality checks
• Performs all assigned machine shop operations
• Set up and operates machines
• Observes machine operations, detects work piece defects and makes adjustments to machinery when necessary to improve performance
• Operates machinery and equipment according to work instructions
• Troubleshoots issues and performs routine and minor maintenance; submits work orders for the maintenance requirements
• Reads blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications and tooling instructions
• Follows reporting and recordkeeping procedures, and reports problems to supervisor
• Cleans machinery and maintains a clean work area
• Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to management
• Follows safety protocols at all times
• Assists in other work areas as needed and directed by the department supervisor

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience

• 1+ years of experience in machine operation
• Experience with the following:
  • Coping Machine
  • Hydraulic Shear
  • Horizontal Saw
  • Band Saw
  • Cold Saw
  • Drills and basic tools
• Basic mathematical skills and proficiency in reading a tape measure
• Read and interpret blueprints
• Mechanical and technical aptitude and capacity
