The base hourly rate for this position is $38.68.

Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine and non‑routine maintenance on production and facility equipment to support the production of roofing materials. The role supports facility safety, productivity, and machine uptime and conducts effective problem solving and troubleshooting of processes.

Shift & Schedule

This is a 2nd‑shift position scheduled from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, following a 3/2/2/3 rotation (3 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off).

Responsibilities
  • Follow all Johns Manville safety and environmental procedures and policies.
  • Attend plant safety and training meetings as scheduled.
  • Follow Job Safety Analysis (JSAs), use safe work practices, and report hazardous conditions at all times.
  • Wear protective clothing and equipment as required.
  • Develop and review JSAs for new and existing tasks annually.
  • Demonstrate ability to train coworkers on plant systems.
  • Perform routine and non‑routine maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Develop and modify preventive maintenance plans for new and modified equipment.
  • Display advanced knowledge of electrical (single‑phase and three‑phase), plant power distribution, mechanical, hydraulics, and pneumatics systems.
  • Install and repair electrical conduit and cable, including connections, controls, grounding, etc.
  • Work from schematics to troubleshoot or install/modify equipment.
  • Perform electrical measurements (voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter, etc.).
  • Inspect equipment and report defective parts or unsatisfactory conditions.
  • Provide solutions to improve equipment efficiency.
  • Maintain, adjust, service, and lubricate equipment to keep it in good operating condition.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) teams.
  • Assist co‑workers as directed.
  • Complete other work assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide feedback and solutions on critical equipment issues affecting safety or operations.
  • Maintain a flexible outlook toward change management, cross‑functional teamwork, and training on new tools and methodologies.
  • Participate in daily housekeeping efforts and keep the shop clean after each shift.
Leadership Responsibilities

While there are no direct supervisory responsibilities, the technician must interact as a leader with all plant department employees and communicate job status to supervision, including planned and unplanned jobs, parts requirement, and need for engineering or technical resources.

Requirements (Education, Skills, and Abilities)
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 6–10 years of multi‑craft maintenance experience.
  • 2‑year technical degree approved by manager or equivalent.
  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and handle multiple priorities and projects.
  • Skill to disassemble, diagnose, repair, and perform preventive measures on mechanical equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, reducers, couplings, seals, rotating elements, blowers, fans, hydraulic units, valves, chillers, and compressors.
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude, including pipe fitting and fabricating.
  • Advanced knowledge of hand tools and power tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of shop machinery (hydraulic press, mill & drill press, lathe, and saws [band & chop]).
  • Advanced knowledge of building lighting, AC/heating, fire alarm systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Lock‑Tag‑Clear, PLC troubleshooting, and VFD troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of 480V systems, arc‑flash training and NFPA
