Role Summary/

Purpose:

The Electrical Maintenance Technician (Controls & Troubleshooting) is a hands‑on role responsible for keeping facility systems and production equipment safe, reliable, and available. The technician will diagnose and repair electrical/control issues, perform preventive maintenance, update documentation in the CMMS, and drive improvements that reduce downtime and improve quality and safety.

  • Health & Safety: Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Arc flash procedures, and job safety assessments. Support safety investigations and contribute to a safe work environment.
  • Controls Troubleshooting: Diagnose faults on PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, safety relays, sensors, and control panels using schematics, ladder logic, and test instruments (multimeter, clamp meter, megger). Identify root causes and implement permanent fixes.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Install, commission, and repair production and facility equipment (pumps, ovens/furnaces, CNCs, air compressors, HVAC, scrubbers). Replace and terminate motors, drives, contractors, sensors, and cabling up to 480V 3‑phase.
  • Reliability & Continuous Improvement: Use structured problem solving (5‑Why, Fishbone) to prevent recurrence; recommend design or component upgrades (e.g., adding surge protection, improving panel ventilation, hardening against corrosion/fumes).
  • Preventive / Predictive Maintenance
    :
    Execute PMs and calibrations on electrical/control systems; document findings and follow up on corrective actions. Support PdM activities (e.g., vibration/IR/ultrasonic data collection if applicable).
  • Documentation & CMMS
    :
    Accurately record work, time, parts, and failure codes in the CMMS. Keep electrical prints, panel schedules, and device lists current; assist with asset labeling and hierarchy.
  • Spare Parts & Inventory: Identify critical spares, verify specs, and coordinate with the storeroom. Ensure all parts used are issued to work orders for cost tracking.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Coordinate with operators, engineers, vendors, and other technicians to plan repairs and minimize downtime. Provide clear status updates and handoffs.
  • Responsiveness: Support unplanned events and critical operations; participate in on‑call rotation and occasional off‑shift/weekend work as needed.
  • Compliance & Standards: Work to NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and internal standards; support audits and corrective actions.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certificate or Associate’s in Electrical/Industrial Technology preferred.
  • Experience:

    7+ years in industrial/manufacturing electrical maintenance with strong controls troubleshooting (or 5+ years with a technical degree/certification).
  • Proven ability to read/interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, panel layouts, and ladder logic.
  • Hands‑on experience with PLCs/HMIs, VFDs, sensors, safety circuits, and control panel wiring.
  • Comfortable working on 480V 3‑phase power, MCCs, distribution panels, and machine controls.
  • Basic understanding of pneumatics/hydraulics and instrumentation (pressure, flow, level, temperature).
  • Computer skills: CMMS usage, PLC software navigation, device backup/restore, and email/Office tools.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and self‑management; can work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
