General SummaryThe Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic II repairs, fabricates, modifies, and installs sheet metal parts, items, and assemblies. Sheet metal mechanic work requires knowledge of the physical properties and working characteristics of sheet metal, knowledge of tools and equipment required in the sheet metal trade, and knowledge of shop mathematics and principles.
Essential Job Functions- Plans work sequence, repair methods, equipment needs, and material requirements from engineering drawings, applicable specifications, airframe service changes, bulletins, contractors' and vendor drawings and repair manuals, and examines and evaluates damage, wear, corrosion, misalignments, and other deficiencies.
- Performs major structural repairs and modifications involving critical structural members and skins.
- Experienced in removal, replacement, or repairs of all or portions of skins, ribs, spars, bulkheads, fittings, forgings, brackets, clips, support splice members, etc. by fitting, aligning, drilling, and riveting.
- Highly proficient in laying out and fabricating parts such as splices, reinforcements, inspection plates, doublers, surface or flush patches, clips, angles, brackets, etc., and frequently manufactures complex ribs, bulkheads, stringers, skins, repair parts, etc., when none are available.
