Maintenance Mechanic – Food Manufacturing – 3rd Shift Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Mechanic for a food manufacturing facility in Jacksonville, FL. This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production and facility equipment to help ensure safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on industrial maintenance experience and be comfortable working around automated production, packaging, conveyor, and material-handling equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on food production and packaging equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment, including motors, bearings, gearboxes, pumps, belts, chains, sprockets, conveyors, and drive systems.
- Diagnose equipment failures and complete repairs to minimize production downtime.
- Perform routine inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and replacement of worn or damaged components.
- Assist with troubleshooting electrical and electromechanical equipment as qualified.
- Work with pneumatic and hydraulic systems, valves, cylinders, hoses, and related components.
- Maintain and repair conveyors, production lines, packaging machinery, and other plant equipment.
- Perform basic fabrication, cutting, grinding, drilling, and welding when required and qualified.
- Complete preventive maintenance work orders according to established schedules.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and production maintenance calls during the shift.
- Assist with equipment installation, modifications, changeovers, and upgrades.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
- Follow proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures before servicing equipment.
- Maintain tools, parts, and maintenance work areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Follow all company safety, food safety, sanitation, GMP, and quality requirements.
- Work closely with production supervisors and operators to identify equipment issues and prevent recurring failures.
- Perform additional maintenance duties as assigned.
- Previous industrial maintenance or maintenance mechanic experience required.
- Food, beverage, packaging, or other high-volume manufacturing experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
- Experience working with motors, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, pumps, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
- Basic electrical troubleshooting experience preferred.
- Ability to read equipment manuals, schematics, diagrams, and maintenance instructions.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, meters, and other maintenance equipment.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices and industrial safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently during an overnight shift and respond appropriately to equipment breakdowns.
- Reliable attendance and ability to work scheduled third-shift hours are required.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work around manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as required.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include noise, temperature changes, wet areas, food ingredients, and moving equipment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
This position works inside an active food manufacturing facility. Employees must follow all facility safety, sanitation, GMP, food safety, and PPE requirements. Work is performed around operating production machinery and may require responding to equipment breakdowns while production is running.
