JOB PURPOSE The Sewing Machine Operator II is responsible for operating and maintaining sewing machines to perform more complex garment sewing operations in the manufacturing process. This role ensures efficient and precise sewing of various fabric and textile materials, contributing to the production of high-quality products.

STRUCTURE The Intermediate Sewing Machine Operator reports to the Production Supervisor or Manufacturing Manager and collaborates closely with Quality Control Inspectors and Production Planners. They may provide guidance to entry-level sewing machine operators.

RESPONSIBILITY Operating sewing machines to perform complex garment sewing operations efficiently and accurately.

Conducting regular maintenance and troubleshooting of sewing machines to ensure optimal functionality.

Collaborating with team members to meet production targets and quality standards.

Following safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Assisting in training new sewing machine operators or apprentices as needed.

REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent qualification preferred.

Proven experience as a Sewing Machine Operator or similar role, preferably in an industrial setting.

Familiarity with various types of sewing machines and different fabric/textile materials.

An acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience will be considered.

MEASURES OF SUCCESS Knowledge Requirements:

Proficiency in operating sewing machines and understanding of advanced sewing techniques.

Knowledge of different fabric types and their properties.

Skills Requirements:

Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Ability to troubleshoot sewing machine issues and perform regular maintenance tasks.

Ability Requirements:

Ability to meet production targets while maintaining high-quality standards.

Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and supervisors.

ORIENTATION PERIOD During the initial six-month orientation period, the Intermediate Sewing Machine Operator will:

Month 1-2:
Advanced Training and Integration Week 1:
Review company policies, safety protocols, and advanced sewing techniques.

Week 2-4:
Work with senior operators to learn advanced sewing machine operations and complex garment sewing techniques.

Month 2:
Begin hands-on practice with advanced sewing tasks, focusing on troubleshooting and maintenance.

Month 3-4:
Performance Enhancement Month 3:
Undertake more complex sewing projects, aiming to meet higher production targets and quality standards.

Month 4:
Engage in cross-functional training with Quality Control Inspectors and Production Planners to understand broader production processes and requirements.

Month 5-6:
Independent Projects and Leadership Development Month 5:
Work independently on advanced sewing projects, demonstrating proficiency and problem-solving abilities.

Month 6:
Participate in leadership training sessions to develop skills in mentoring and training entry-level operators.

End of Month 6:
Undergo a comprehensive performance review to evaluate advanced sewing skills, troubleshooting capabilities, and readiness for potential promotion to Senior Sewing Machine Operator.

PROMOTION READINESS To be considered for promotion to Senior Sewing Machine Operator, the Intermediate Sewing Machine Operator should:

Exhibit advanced proficiency in operating various sewing machines and performing complex garment sewing operations.

Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot and resolve more complex sewing machine issues and perform regular maintenance tasks.

Knowledge Enhancement:

Gain a deeper understanding of advanced sewing techniques and procedures.

Develop knowledge of process improvement strategies to enhance production efficiency.

Performance Metrics:

Consistently achieve or surpass production targets and quality standards.

Receive positive evaluations from supervisors and team members for performance, reliability, and teamwork.

Display strong communication skills and collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors.

Take an active role in training and mentoring entry-level sewing machine operators.
