About the Role:
The Registered Nurse specializing in Eating Disorders plays a critical role in delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to patients struggling with complex nutritional and psychological challenges. This position involves comprehensive assessment, monitoring, and management of patients with eating disorders to promote recovery and improve overall health outcomes. The nurse collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, dietitians, and mental health professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
Additionally, the role requires patient and family education to support understanding and adherence to treatment protocols. Ultimately, the nurse contributes to a supportive environment that fosters healing and empowers patients on their journey to wellness.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
* Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
* Experience or clinical exposure to patients with eating disorders or related mental health conditions.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or equivalent.
* Strong understanding of nursing principles, patient care standards, and healthcare documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Certification in Eating Disorders Nursing or related specialty certification.
* Experience working in multidisciplinary teams within mental health or specialized eating disorder treatment settings.
* Advanced training in psychiatric or behavioral health nursing.
* Familiarity with evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Family-Based Therapy (FBT).
* Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and data management.
Responsibilities:
* Conduct thorough patient assessments focusing on physical and psychological indicators related to eating disorders.
* Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
* Monitor patients' vital signs, nutritional intake, and mental health status, adjusting care as needed.
* Provide education and emotional support to patients and their families regarding eating disorder management and recovery strategies.
* Document patient progress accurately and communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care.
* Participate in case conferences and contribute to quality improvement initiatives related to eating disorder treatment.
* Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and institutional policies to ensure patient safety and confidentiality.
Skills:
The required skills in eating disorders nursing are applied daily to assess complex patient needs and tailor interventions that address both physical and psychological aspects of care. Effective communication skills are essential for educating patients and families, as well as collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive treatment plans.
