About the Position

The position is responsible for administering and managing the activities of the Infection Control Program and managing/providing oversight for all high‑level disinfectant and sterile processing programs for medical and dental staff at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, branch clinics, and aircraft carrier staff.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

• Conducts surveillance, education and consultation measures; provides administrative and clinical guidance regarding infection control at organization and satellite clinics where care is provided.
• Performs duties relevant to infection control aspects of blood‑borne pathogens, multi drug resistant organisms, tuberculosis and other infectious processes, relevant to all departments, services, staff, patients, and families.
• Evaluates and designs infection control interventions to meet departmental and unit unique infection control requirements, ensuring regulatory compliance at the local, state and national levels.
• Applies advanced theories, principles and procedures and knowledge of microbiology and infectious diseases, life‑span growth and development to guide decisions for the prevention and control of infections incorporating age‑appropriate guidance.
• Utilizes epidemiologic principles and practices to observe, investigate and implements control measures throughout the MTF, following an outbreak or cluster of infections.
• Conducts research, applies statistical methods, designs protocols and evaluates impact of care on infection outcomes, basing criteria for methodology or techniques used on unique or differing situations.

• 1. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• 2. Tier 3 Position (Secret):
  Position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• 3. Child Care Checks:
  This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re‑verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
• 5. A one‑year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
• 6. Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• 7. This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre‑employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• 8. A pre‑placement medical examination is required.
• 9. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• 11. Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• 14. Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• 16. This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
• 17. This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
• 18. This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours or on call, and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
• 19. This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.
