The Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing care to surgical patients utilizing the nursing process and the standards of care of a professional nurse. The RN is expected to perform all staff nurse activities and functions as charge nurse when assigned. The RN maintains overall accountability/responsibility for assigned patients, even though some activities/tasks may be delegated to Surgical Technologists, Patient Care Associates, Guest Associates, and Anesthesia Technologists.

• Required Education: Associate's degree. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. New hires effective June 14, 2017, must have a BSN degree within three (3) years of hire or transfer.
• Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Specialty Certification.
• Required Licensure/Certification s: Licensed to practice nursing in Florida. BLS from the American Heart Association is required. Effective March 19, 2024, ACLS and PALS are not required.
• Preferred Licensure/Certification s: Professional Specialty Certification.
• Required Experience: PACU Nurses need a minimum of 1 year critical care experience. OR Nurses need 1-2 years of OR experience. Perioperative Fellows can be new graduates.
• Necessary Skills: Demonstrates teamwork, communicates professionally, willingness to learn, adapts to change, adheres to hospital and Florida Nurse Practice Act guidelines, familiar with medical/surgical equipment.
