Southpoint Surgery Center (SPSC), an affiliate of North Carolina Specialty Hospital, is a new Ambulatory Surgery Center located between Raleigh and Durham in the Durham-Southpoint area. SPSC provides a differentiated outpatient delivery model focusing on high-quality, cost-effective surgical and related ancillary care for patients. SPSC is a multi-specialty 22,298 sq. ft. facility accommodating Ortho, Spine, Ophthalmology, ENT, GYN, General, Urology, Plastics, Podiatry, Vascular, and Pain.

- Provide individualized nursing care to the surgical patient, demonstrating extensive knowledge to support a variety of single and multi-system illnesses or injuries.
- Control the environment within the surgical suite and develop and coordinate a safe plan of care within practice standards and policies.
- Apply age-specific standards and guidelines for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in medications, analgesia, anesthesia, and related treatments.
- Incorporate cultural and developmental needs into the plan of care in collaboration with the patient/family.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Concentrate on detailed requests, prioritize tasks, and maintain patient safety amid interruptions.
- Document patient care in the medical record according to established standards.
- Participate in Universal Protocol and time-out procedures for every procedure.
- Collaborate with surgeons, physician assistants, anesthesia providers, SPD staff, Radiology, and other OR team members to plan patient care and achieve optimal outcomes.
- Act as patient advocate throughout the perioperative experience and adjust the plan of care as needed while communicating with the team.
- Participate in performance improvement activities, including data collection and analysis to identify quality measures and support patient care delivery system development.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing;
Associate's degree required; BSN preferred - Current licensure as a Registered Nurse from the North Carolina State Board of Nursing or compact multi-state license
- BLS from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required upon hire
- ACLS & PALS from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) preferred; must obtain both certifications within 6 months of hire if not currently active
- CNOR Certification strongly preferred
- Familiar with perioperative nursing instruments and equipment
- Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity in handling instruments
