Description of Position:

The medication assistant will be trained in medication assistance and observation.

Training will be provided in accordance with AHCA regulations. The medication

assistant will coordinate resident medication related to medications by working with all

departments, the medical community, families, and administrative staff to provide for

resident needs with continuity and an adherence to the scope of practice and licensure

for the community. Provides complete supervision of the medication room, observation

and techniques, documentation and supervision and provisions of care related to

medication in the community.

Staffing Pattern:

Ambiance at Maitland will provide medication observation and assistance to associates

in sufficient manner to ensure medication is provided accurately and timely.

Responsibilities of the Medication Assistant:

1 Resident Records. Keeping documentation current (community forms, licensing

documentation, physician orders, incident reports, etc.)

2 Communicate resident status changes.

3 Ensure all medication documentation is current and correct, including medication

administration forms, physician orders, change of dosages, written orders to

confirm telephone orders, etc.

4 Ensure medication room is completely stocked with all required continuous, PRN,

Over the Counter (OTC), and other medications as ordered by the physician.

5 Coordinate medication orders and deliveries with pharmacies.

6 Communicate with physicians and other healthcare providers as needed.

7 Control medication room access and key assignment.

8 Pour, pass, and assist with the assistance of self-administration of medications in

accordance with state regulations.

9 Coordinate physician and other medical appointments.

10 Read all communication notes regarding the community between the Caregiver

shifts.

11 Other duties as assigned.

Requirements of the Position:

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

Must possess initial 6 hour Medication Technician certificate and all subsequent

updates.

Have a positive level two background screening

Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.

Ability to push, pull, and lift 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds.

Ability to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable

manner and to be able to carefully follow writing and oral instructions given in the

English language.

Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, vendors and the

public.

Abide by all company policies and procedures.

Provide documentation stating that you are clear from communicable diseases

including tuberculosis upon hire and annually.
