Overview
The Lactation RN will assist patients' mothers with breastfeeding, pumping, and kangaroo care; provide education and support to parents and staff on the benefits of breastfeeding; collect and maintain data on breast‑fed infants; provide education on benefits of donor breast milk when appropriate, assist with consents; manage and monitor the ordering, supplies, and storage for banked breast milk sufficient for the unit needs;
assist staff with preparation and storage of expressed breast milk; and assist with discharge teaching/education. The Lactation RN is expected to perform all staff nurse activities and function as charge nurse when assigned. The Lactation RN maintains overall accountability/responsibility for assigned patients, even though some activities/tasks may be delegated to Technical Nurses, Patient Care Associates, and/or Sitters. Assignments are performed appropriately to the age and developmental level of patients being served.
The Register Nurse (RN) provides nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process and standards of practice for a professional nurse.
Required
Education:
Associates' degree. Specific coursework:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Required Licensure/
Certifications:
Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida BLS from the American Heart Association Effective July 1, 2018, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is required within 6 months of hire or transfer. Existing employees are required to have NRP by December 31, 2018. IBCLC Professional Certification within 24 months of hire or transfer into the position.
Required Experience:
1‑2 years related experience.
Preferred Experience:
1 year of clinical experience.
