Public Health Nurse, Nurse Educator
SENIOR COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSE –
This Senior Registered Nurse position serves in the Comprehensive, Basic, and Full‑Service School Nursing Programs, providing public health nursing services within the Duval County Public School System under the supervision of a Registered Nurse Supervisor and/or Registered Nurse Consultant.
The responsibilities include:
- Provide assessment of health needs of students through screening procedures, analysis of records, and assessment of students referred by school personnel.
- Initiate nursing care plans for students with chronic diseases or disorders. Provide direct care through assessment, referrals, health counseling, and follow‑up.
- Assess home environments through visits to promote understanding of health problems or behaviors when needed.
- Encourage immunization compliance of all students.
- Assist school staff in meeting Florida School Health Act requirements.
- Gather records and report statistical data related to health concerns and nursing services.
- Provide assistance to the Adolescent Mobile Health Van within the Full‑Service Schools, Basic, and Comprehensive School Nursing Program.
- Administer the School Health Services Program as mandated by the School Health Service Act, 381.0056, F.S.

- Responsible for instruction and training of school personnel, Health Support Technicians, and students concerning health matters.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new team members.
- Support and educate the Department of Health goals and objectives.
- Participate in goal‑oriented focus groups to improve School Health Services.
- Attend required staff meetings, in‑services, or training programs.
- Provide consultation and educational health information regarding health issues.
- Assist with classroom health education programs as invited or arranged.
- Travel to perform duties as described.
- Participate in in‑service education programs to stay current with health knowledge.
- Perform other related work duties as required.
- Complete timesheets, EARs/DARs, and mandatory training within required time frames.
- Actively seek opportunities to help people.
- Understand others’ reactions and respond appropriately.
- Communicate effectively with others in writing and orally.
- Interview clients and obtain medical history.
- Enter, transcribe, record, and maintain information.
- Manage personal and team time effectively.

Minimum:
- Licensed Registered Nurse.
- Required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal hours in emergencies, including special‑needs or Red Cross shelters.
- Valid driver’s license and availability of a private vehicle.
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs.
Preferred:
- Prior nursing experience in pediatrics or school health.
