Overview

The Assistant Nurse Manager serves as an adjunct to the Nurse Manager or Nursing Director by providing supervision and clinical expertise to staff in his/her assigned area. Assists the Nurse Manager in hiring and firing of nursing personnel, conducting periodic employee evaluations, orientation of new employees, and performance improvement activities. Assists in devising and managing departmental budgets. Facilitates positive customer service and patient-centered care on the nursing unit.

  Education:
  
  Associate's Degree. Specific coursework:
  Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. New hires effective June 14, 2017, must have a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position. New hires or transfers between August 1, 2013 and June 13, 2017 must abide by conditions in offer letter. Current employees hired or transferred prior to August 1, 2013 will be grandfathered.

  Skills:
  
  Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards & Nursing Standards. Demonstrate clinical skills in nursing practice. Good customer service skills. Basic computer literacy required. Above average oral and written communication abilities. Effective problem‑solving decision‑making skills.
• Required Licensure/Certification: Licensed to practice nursing in the State of Florida. BLS from the American Heart Association required for all areas. ACLS from the American Heart Association required at hire or transfer for departments:
  Arrhythmia Service, Cardiac Holding Area, Cardiology Interv North, Code Blue Team, CVICU, Emergency Department, Emergency Department Admin, Emergency Department North, FC Gastroenterology, Float‑ICU Flex, Invasive Cardiology Lab, MICU, PACU, Pain Management Center, PICU, Preop, Surgery Center North, and Trauma Center. ACLS required within 6 months of hire for departments: 3 ICU‑North, 5N CCU, Cardiac Rehab, Non Invasive Cardiology North, Noninvasive Cardiac Lab, SICU, 2 L&D/Womens Srvcs‑North TA, 3N Obstetrics, 3S Gyn‑CC, Labor and Delivery, Normal Nursery‑CC, and Womens Acute Care Center.
  
  For departments effective 07/01/2018, all current employees required ACLS by 07/01/2019. PALS mandatory within 6 months for departments:
  Code Blue Team, Emergency Department, Emergency Department Admin, Emergency Department North, Float‑ICU Flex, PACU, PICU, Pre Op, SICU, Surgery Center North, and Trauma Center. NRP required within 6 months for departments:
  Code Blue Team, Emergency Department, Emergency Department Admin, Emergency Department North, 2 L&D/Womens Srvcs‑North TA, 3N Obstetrics, 3S Gyn‑CC, 6S NICU Level 3, Labor and Delivery, Neo Natal Transport, Normal Nursery‑CC, and Womens Acute Care Center. STABLE certification required by 07/01/2019 for departments: 2 L&D/Womens Srvcs‑North TA, 3N Obstetrics, 3S Gyn‑CC, 6S NICU Level 3, Labor and Delivery, Neo Natal Transport, Normal Nursery‑CC, and Womens Acute Care Center.
  
  Mandatory life support certifications are statutory by 12/31/2018 for existing employees per previously assigned unit. New hires or transfers must have a professional certification within two years of hire or transfer. For specialty certifications requiring case/time, certification must be applied once requirement met and obtained within one year of requirement met.
• Required Experience: 3-5 years – Practicing RN in acute care.
