The Urban Farmer leads Bloom Lab’s agriculture curriculum, maintaining vibrant learning

gardens and teaching students sustainable farming, soil science, harvesting, and food

systems literacy.

• Agriculture Instruction
• Teach gardening lessons focused on soil health, seed starting, plant care, harvesting,
• composting, and ecology.
• Develop hands‑on activities aligned with STEM and environmental literacy.
• Lead students in building planter boxes, irrigation systems, compost bins, insect
• hotels, and more.

• Maintain all raised beds, pollinator gardens, and greenhouse spaces.
• Manage soil amendments, irrigation schedules, pest control, and compost systems.
• Coordinate with staff on planting themes for Market Days.

• Support students in developing responsibility, teamwork, and confidence through
• Facilitate leadership opportunities such as garden captains and maintenance crews.

• Collaborate with local farmers, sustainability educators, and environmental
• organizations.
• Support Market Days by preparing produce and products for student sales.

Knowledge of organic farming, permaculture, or sustainable agriculture.

Experience teaching or mentoring youth.

Ability to problem‑solve, multitask, and create engaging outdoor lessons.

Level II background check required.

Able to lift 40 lbs.

Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather.

• Able to bend, kneel, plant, and dig for extended periods.
