NSC Staffing is seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Inspector Level 3 to support high?visibility ship repair and systems testing projects. This senior?level QA role requires extensive U.S. Navy ship systems experience, advanced inspection capability, and the ability to coordinate complex multi?trade and government?witnessed tests. The QA Inspector III will also be cross?trained in coatings and NDT disciplines to support full?spectrum project quality requirements.
Pay is dependent on experience.
Position Overview
The Quality Assurance Inspector Level 3 is responsible for coordinating and supervising equipment and system?level testing with government personnel, ship's force, trades, and subcontractors. This position requires a strong background in U.S. Navy engineering ratings, system operation, and testing protocols. The Inspector will maintain project QA records, perform in?process and final inspections, and support NAVSEA, ABS, and Coast Guard compliance across assigned projects.
This is a highly technical, senior?level QA position requiring the ability to manage multiple systems, testing events, and documentation requirements simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Testing & Coordination
- Coordinate and supervise shipboard system?level testing with the government, trades, subcontractors, and ship's force.
- Validate test readiness, verify safety requirements, and ensure all prerequisites are met.
- Conduct and witness operational checkpoints, including mechanical, electrical, auxiliary, and propulsion?related systems.
- Resolve testing issues, schedule conflicts, and discrepancies in real time.
- Maintain ship project records in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items, QA instructions, and contract requirements.
- Review drawings, specifications, test procedures, and technical manuals.
- Generate Test & Inspection Plans (TIPs), Test Memorandums, OQE packages, and QA reports.
- Support audits, surveillances, and checkpoint validations.
Training
- Cross?trained or willing to train in:
- NBPI - NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector
- NDT disciplines (VT, MT, PT, UT)
- Assist in inspections related to surface preparation, coatings compliance, or nondestructive examinations as needed.
- Ensure all testing and inspection activities comply with NAVSEA, ABS, USCG, ASTM, and ISO standards.
- Interface professionally with government inspectors, prime contractors, production teams, and customer representatives.
- Participate in pre?test briefs, safety reviews, and QA planning meetings.
- Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Minimum 15 years of U.S. Navy marine systems experience (GSM/MM/EN strongly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of shipboard systems, including propulsion, auxiliary, and electrical systems.
- Experience coordinating multi?system testing events.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to read drawings, system diagrams, specifications, and test procedures.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in fast?paced shipyard environments with multiple priorities.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility access credentials.
- DBIDS is required.
- NBPI, NACE, QCS, or PCI coating inspector certification.
- NDT certifications (VT, MT, PT, UT) or ability to obtain.
- Experience with NAVSEA Standard Items, particularly 009?04 & 009?32.
- Prior QA Inspector II/III experience within ship repair or new construction.
- Experience generating large OQE packages and supporting government review.
- Shipyard and onboard environments including confined spaces, heights, and industrial conditions.
- Required PPE use: hardhat, respirator, goggles, safety shoes, etc.
- Must be able to walk, climb ladders, kneel, crouch, and work in tight areas.
