Primary

Purpose:

The Agriculture Technology Specialist will develop, implement, and execute strategic plans to retain and grow sales of Univar Solutions’ products in agricultural markets, an important focus area for the Company. The person in this role will bring technical knowledge and a consultative approach to build long-term partnerships with and provide solutions to independent fertilizer and micronutrient formulators, crop protection manufacturers, and toll blenders to address customer challenges in application areas such as plant nutrition, crop defense, soil health, harvest preparation, biological solutions, water treatment, and blending/packaging services.

What You’ll Do:

Customer-Facing

Activities:
  • Assist customers in solving product formulation issues and identify appropriate solutions from Univar’s line card of agrochemicals.
  • Provide or coordinate technical support for specialty products to all sales levels and deliver appropriate training to internal teams.
  • Represent Univar Solutions at all levels of the customer organization as needed and communicate the full value of Univar Solutions as a strategic partner.
  • Coordinate impactful supplier meetings and joint sales calls with key target customers.
  • Review opportunities and coordinate efforts with the local sales organization to win new business.
  • Support business development efforts through the creation of effective technical proposals and product/service application solutions.
  • Identify new service and product opportunities by monitoring industry trends, innovations, and emerging customer needs.
Supplier-Facing

Activities:
  • Manage communication and partnerships with supplier technical resources to help drive business results.
  • Attend product training, continuing education, and industry update meetings to expand knowledge and expertise.
  • Provide feedback on technical product performance, market intelligence, and industry dynamics.
  • Identify share loss and develop joint plans to recapture business.
  • Assist in qualifying potential new suppliers and products to strengthen the Agriculture product portfolio.
  • Identify products suitable for focused marketing campaigns.
Internal-Facing

Activities:
  • Deliver relevant and impactful product and industry training to sales and sales support teams.
  • Participate in industry-related meetings and teleconferences.
  • Provide technical expertise in support of supplier and customer contract negotiations.
  • Assist in business plan development, including goal setting and forecasting.
  • Support all aspects of business development, including opportunity identification, prospecting, problem-solving, formulation support, and ingredient recommendations.
  • Coordinate activities with specialty laboratories as needed.
Market-Facing and Trade Show

Activities:
  • Participate in national and local trade shows, industry conferences, meetings, website content development, and literature development.
  • Present sales and technical information credibly at agricultural conferences and customer sales calls as needed.
What You’ll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Agribusiness, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior agriculture formulation experience with adjuvant, crop protection, and fertilizer formulations.
  • Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) or similar certification.
  • Organic agriculture certification or related experience.
  • Agriculture stewardship or farming experience.
  • Future Farmers of America (FFA) experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.
  • Demonstrated understanding of local agricultural markets, trends, and products relevant to Ag customers.
  • Knowledge of microbes from a soil health and crop protection perspective.
  • Knowledge of agrochemicals and chemicals used in agriculture and their applications.
  • Solve customer formulation inquiries and technical challenges.
  • Recommend key products, particularly surfactants, to address customer adjuvant and crop protection formulation needs.
