Access Control Technician - Service Department

Position Summary

The Access Control Technician is responsible for inspecting, installing, servicing, maintaining, and troubleshooting access control, door hardware, and security systems across active client sites. This role supports customers by ensuring secure, reliable, and code-compliant operation of electronic locking, credentialing, and monitoring systems.

Key Responsibilities

* Install, program, maintain, and service access control systems including readers, panels, electrified locks, strikes, and door hardware

* Troubleshoot system issues involving power, cabling, network connectivity, and hardware failures

* Perform service calls, inspections, and preventive maintenance

* Run and terminate low-voltage cabling (CAT6, RS-485, power, and control wiring)

* Integrate access control with video surveillance, alarms, and building management systems

* Test and verify system functionality and user access permissions

* Read and interpret system drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation

* Provide technical support and training to customers

* Maintain accurate service reports and documentation

* Follow safety, cybersecurity, and data-privacy standards

* Communicate clearly with service coordinators and customers regarding work performed

Required Qualifications

* 2+ years of access control, security systems, or low-voltage service experience

* Good technical knowledge and experience in electronic access control systems.

* Ability to troubleshoot low-voltage electrical and network issues

* Ability to read wiring diagrams and system layouts

* Valid driver's license and clean driving record

* Ability to pass background checks and drug screening

Preferred Qualifications

* Manufacturer certifications (Lenel, Genetec, Avigilon, HID, Honeywell, etc.)

* Experience with IP-based and cloud-managed access systems

* OSHA-10 certification

Work Environment

This role is primarily field based, working in occupied commercial, healthcare, and industrial facilities. Work may include after-hours service calls, emergency repairs, and travel between customer sites. The position requires standing, climbing, lifting, and working around energized equipment and door systems.
