Marine Diesel Mechanic

Location:
Jacksonville, FL. (Mayport)

Compensation:
Negotiable based on experience

We are seeking a skilled Marine Diesel Mechanic with U.S. Navy experience to support maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of marine diesel engines and onboard mechanical systems. This role is ideal for veterans with hands‑on experience working on shipboard propulsion systems, auxiliary equipment, and mechanical systems in demanding operational environments.

Veterans Encouraged to Apply (USN Required)

This position requires prior experience in the United States Navy, preferably in roles such as:

  • Engineman (EN)
  • Machinist’s Mate (MM)
  • Hull Maintenance Technician (HT) with mechanical experience
  • Damage Control man (DC) with engineering systems exposure

Candidates with direct experience maintaining marine diesel engines, pumps, compressors, and auxiliary systems are highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities Engine Maintenance & Repair
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on marine diesel engines
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and complete necessary repairs efficiently
  • Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance on propulsion systems
Mechanical Systems
  • Maintain and repair:
    • Pumps, valves, and piping systems
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    • Fuel, cooling, and lubrication systems
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
  • Identify system faults using technical manuals and diagnostic tools
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all safety procedures and operational standards
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance documentation and reporting
Qualifications
  • Prior service in the United States Navy (required)
  • Experience working on marine diesel engines and shipboard systems
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
Preferred Experience
  • Background as EN, MM, DC, or related engineering rate
  • Experience in:
    • Shipyards, maritime operations, or heavy equipment repair
    • Commercial marine or industrial diesel engines
  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs
Work Environment
  • Shipyard, dockside, or marine industrial environments
  • Exposure to noise, heat, confined spaces, and mechanical equipment
  • May require physical activity including lifting, climbing, and standing for extended periods
