Position Description

Torque by Ryder is immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Experienced Mobile Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet in Jacksonville, FL.

Compensation and Benefits

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Vocational or Technical Certification/Post‑Secondary degree or Technical Certifications preferred
  • Basic tools, required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work), diagnostics and repairs (AC, electrical systems), and advanced skilled level repairs (major engine repairs, diesel after treatment or automotive fuel injection repairs)
  • Four (4) years or more relevant work experience preferred
  • Non‑Commercial Driver License CLASS E preferred
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A preferred
  • Other State driver's license, as required
  • Must have minimum tools required to perform job duties as outlined in Ryder’s Maintenance policy 2.02
  • Able to take home assigned mobile service truck, as applicable, and secure vehicle and contents
  • Must be able to drive Ryder vehicles
  • Ability to understand and adhere to company policies, complete repair orders with the company systems, create and maintain professional relationships with peers, supervisors, and customers, work independently and as a member of a team, prioritize workload, demonstrate hands‑on mechanic, customer service, and account management skills, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility to operate and be self‑driven to excel in a fast‑paced environment; self‑starter and self‑sufficient approach; capable of multi‑tasking, highly organized, with excellent time management skills; detailed oriented with excellent follow‑up practices; entrepreneurial spirit
  • Required certification and training (preventive maintenance, brakes, tires, A/C, electrical, HVAC, hydraulic, etc.) within specified time frames (90 to 180 days)
  • Must pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and Ryder background and motor vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
Responsibilities
  • Decision making: responsible for vehicle diagnostics and repair decisions
  • Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard maintenance, preventive maintenance, and complex repairs with minimal support
  • Access and use internal and external maintenance documents; diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers/software when applicable
  • Perform remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solutions for roadside breakdowns
  • Perform facility maintenance duties
  • Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaints and provide solutions, including coordinating work schedules and road testing for quality assurance
  • Instruct and advise other technicians on maintenance repairs and diagnostics
  • Execute preventive maintenance and vehicle repairs across systems (A/C, brakes, hydraulic systems, charging systems, clutch, cooling systems, cranking system, lighting, drive axles, driveline, engine, fuel systems, steering, chassis, suspension, wheels, and coupling systems)
  • Utilize shop management system and electronic documentation; maintain safety, environmental, and compliance records
  • Ensure accurate maintenance measurement and reporting under company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
