Lift Station Mechanic

Essential Functions:

  • Troubleshoots mechanical and basic electrical problems; inspect and repair lift station pumps, valves and other related components at lift stations.
  • Cleans sewer lines as assigned.
  • Participates in general lift stations/building maintenance work as assigned.
  • Maintains accurate records of work in progress and records completed items.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, codes, and standards of quality and safety.
  • Operates a vehicle, truck, hydraulic crane, jet machine, mechanic's tools and electrician's tools. Maintains assigned equipment and tools.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other department heads and employees, other City employees, contractors, customers.

Qualifications:

Minimum Training and Experience

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by three years minimum of mechanical maintenance experience in lift stations and collection systems, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work. Must obtain a certification for confined space entry within one year of employment.

Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate a vehicle, heavy equipment, various tools, etc. Tasks involve the regular and at times sustained performance of moderately physical demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which involves the lifting carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 lbs.)

Language Abilities:
Requires ability to read a variety of work orders, policies and procedures, maps, drawings, etc. Requires the ability to prepare routine reports, records etc. with proper format. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control and confidence.

Physical Communications:
Requires the ability to talk and hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)
