Perform a basic to advanced level skilled work to accomplish sheet metal repairs and replacements of structural parts. Fabricate replacement covering, panels, or fairings by using the removed parts as samples. Reads and complies with instructions and safety information as necessary for proper and safe completion of assigned work.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Cleans corrosion and treats metal surfaces per the manufacturer’s instructions and specifications.
- Performs basic sheet metal repairs and replacement of structural parts using measurement tools (rulers, grip gauges) and hand/powered tools (hammers, chisels, hand snips, band and circle saws, drill presses, squaring shears, brakes) to cut and form new parts.
- Assembles parts by bolting, screwing, or riveting and determines the appropriate fasteners and symbols.
- Removes and installs minor components of aircraft structure or systems such as fairings, cargo liners, cargo floors, and access panels.
- Repairs minor or secondary structure per the manufacturers SRM.
- Fabricates replacement covering, panels, or fairings by using removed parts as samples.
- Performs repairs of a cosmetic nature in passenger cabin interiors.
- Demonstrates understanding of sealing procedures of aircraft structures.
- Performs bonded repairs of honeycomb structures as instructed.
- Identifies locations of pressurized areas of aircraft.
- Opens and closes areas on the aircraft required for inspection.
- Applies corrosion preventative and maintains knowledge of areas wherein corrosion inhibiting liquids may not be applied.
- Possesses working knowledge of ATA Codes (Chapter and Subchapters) and aircraft zones, narrow and wide-body airframe familiarization, and industry standards.
- Reads maintenance manuals to identify and locate aircraft components and accurately implements instructions.
- Identifies the structural composition of aircraft (i.e., aluminum or composite) prior to performing any work on the structure.
- Reads instructions and safety information as necessary for proper and safe completion of assigned work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Proficiency in reading, speaking, writing, and understanding English.
- Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate preferred;
Airframe Familiarization (FAM) course certificate preferred. - Valid driver’s license.
- Minimum 18 months of relevant experience working with narrow and wide-body airframe techniques, terminology, parts, etc.
- Experience performing daily transactions within an ERP system and research of maintenance manuals.
- Ability to lift and carry hand tools, parts, and work materials; climb and descend ladders and platforms; work in stooping, kneeling, or squatting positions.
