• maintain and repair gas and diesel vehicles for the city's fleet.
• examines vehicles and discusses with employee the nature and extend of damage or malfuntion.
• raises vehicle using a hydraulic jack or hoist to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle.
• repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings.
• relines and adjusts brakes, aligns front end, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and solders leaks in radiator.
• performs welding operation on equipment.
• performs, repair, overhaul and maintenance of vehicles; diagnose problems and recommend repairs to be made; identify and secure service for any maintenance or repair work which cannot be performed in-house.

qualifications:

must have at least 3 yrs as a skilled auto mechanic and a complete mechanic apprenticeship and or training. Current ase certification is preferred.
