GFL Environmental is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to safely operate loaders, excavators, and related equipment at our waste and recycling facilities. In this role, you'll move, load, compact, and stage solid and recyclable materials, perform daily inspections and basic maintenance, and follow strict safety and environmental procedures. You'll work closely with drivers, scale staff, and supervisors to maintain efficient site flow, support cleanliness and compliance, and deliver reliable service to our municipal, commercial, and industrial customers in a fast-paced, essential services environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate loaders, excavators, compactors, and related heavy equipment to move, load, and compact waste and recyclables.
  • Complete pre- and post-trip inspections and report equipment issues promptly.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and operational procedures and policies.
  • Coordinate with drivers, scale operators, and supervisors to maintain efficient site traffic and material flow.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and support site housekeeping standards.
  • Document loads, inspections, and basic maintenance activities as required.
  • Assist with minor equipment maintenance and troubleshooting within skill level.
  • Respond to changing site and weather conditions while maintaining safe operations.
