Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Heavy Haul & Specialized Rigging | St. Augustine, Florida Know how to lead a team AND know what they're working on? Keep reading.
At Edwards Moving & Rigging, our equipment isn't just an asset on a spreadsheet. It's what allows our crews to do their jobs.
Our trucks, trailers, and specialized equipment support heavy haul and rigging projects where reliability matters. When equipment isn't ready, neither is the operation.
That's why we're looking for a Maintenance Shop Foreman for our St. Augustine, Florida yard who understands two equally important parts of the job:
The equipment and the people who keep it running.
This is not a position for someone who wants to manage the shop entirely from behind a desk.
And it isn't simply a technician position with a Foreman title.
We're looking for someone who can lead the team, organize the work, troubleshoot problems, develop technicians, and roll up their sleeves when the situation requires it.
What You'll LeadAs the Maintenance Shop Foreman, you'll be responsible for helping keep our fleet and equipment safe, reliable, and ready for the field.
You'll:
- Lead and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the maintenance shop.
- Assign and prioritize maintenance and repair work based on operational needs.
- Provide hands‑on technical guidance and troubleshooting support to technicians.
- Help diagnose difficult mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and emissions‑related problems.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and equipment readiness.
- Monitor work quality and make sure repairs are completed correctly.
- Help ensure trucks, trailers, and equipment are ready when Operations needs them.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and productive shop and yard environment.
- Communicate equipment status, repair needs, priorities, and potential downtime to appropriate leadership.
- Reinforce safe work practices and hold team members accountable for shop standards.
- Help manage parts, tools, shop equipment, and other maintenance resources.
- Develop technicians by sharing knowledge, coaching performance, and creating accountability.
- Step into the work when your experience and skills are needed.
Because sometimes the best way to lead a maintenance team is to walk over to the equipment and help solve the problem.
You Need to Know the EquipmentWe're not looking for someone who simply knows how to manage a work order.
The right person needs a strong working knowledge of:- Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) and emissions systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Pneumatic systems
- Heavy truck and equipment maintenance
- Preventive maintenance and inspection practices
- Mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostics
You don't have to know the answer to every mechanical problem immediately.
But when a technician says, “We’ve got a problem,” you should know which questions to ask.
You Also Need to Know PeopleA great technician doesn’t automatically make a great Foreman.
Technical knowledge gets equipment repaired. Leadership builds a shop people can depend on.
We’re looking for someone who knows how to:
- Set clear expectations.
- Prioritize work when everything seems important.
- Hold people accountable without creating unnecessary drama.
- Teach instead of simply taking over.
- Recognize when someone needs coaching and when someone needs a challenge.
- Communicate with technicians, drivers, Operations, and leadership.
- Make decisions when the answer isn’t obvious.
- Stay calm when a piece of equipment is needed and the clock is ticking.
- Build a team that takes pride in doing the job correctly.
The strongest candidate will understand that managing equipment and leading people require two different skill sets, and this job requires both.
Why Edwards?Because maintaining ordinary equipment is one thing. Supporting a heavy haul and specialized rigging operation is…
