Job Summary
Coordinate, mentor, handle fee collection and document client class attendance/participation maintaining strict adherence to established policies and procedures related to program objectives and governing bodies directives; remain updated on all compliance mandates affecting the treatment community.
Responsibilities and Skills- Facilitate or co‑facilitate assigned group utilizing the established curriculum and teaching techniques.
- Model appropriate boundary settings, confrontation, refraining, paraphrasing, reflection and clarification.
- Identify and eliminate collusion or complicity and inter‑group conflicts for individual group growth.
- Communicate non‑hostility, respect unconditional acceptance of ethno‑cultural and life‑style differences.
- Appropriately address how domestic violence affects children as victims and children who witness domestic violence.
- Teach and model problem‑solving skills and non‑violent behavior options.
- Recognize and process denial, minimization and other defense mechanisms.
- Establish rapport and understanding in a non‑judgmental and objective manner to build trust, reduce resistance, and elicit necessary feedback.
- Appropriately confront acts of domestic violence and other counterproductive behaviors.
- Elicit self‑disclosure to enhance participant’s self‑exploration.
- Maintain case notes regarding participation, cooperation and other pertinent information.
- Collect appropriate Batterers Intervention Program fees from clients during class and assure that The Salvation Army BIP Policy and Procedures are followed during the collection and deposit process.
- Maintain instructor qualifications each year as dictated by the BIP state certifying agency.

Bachelor’s degree in a social or behavioral science or two years of experience involving direct contact work with victims and batterers.
Passing a background screening is required.
Must complete a minimum six‑month facilitator training program to become a credentialed BIP facilitator per Florida Statute 741.28.
Licenses and CertificationsValid State driver’s license may be required.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of feminism and dynamics of domestic violence in society.
- Knowledge of criminal justice principles and practices.
- Knowledge of court procedures and legal terms in order to assist judges and instruct clients.
- Knowledge of time management practices and principles.
- Skill in using a Duluth‑style power and control model for domestic violence intervention.
- Ability to learn The Salvation Army corrections probation policies and procedures.
- Ability to represent The Salvation Army’s interest in a professional and positive manner and in compliance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Ability to process data from violations of probation in order to identify special circumstances and appropriate procedures.
- Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors.
- Ability to interview clients to obtain pertinent information.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete court session and client records.
- Ability to maintain the confidential nature of the clients’ cases as outlined by the established policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to individuals at all levels throughout the organization.
- Ability to work independently and remain self‑motivated.
- Ability to pass specialized training in using a Duluth style power and control model for domestic violence intervention.
- Ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written form.
- Ability to effectively work with local judiciary, sheriff’s department, probation officers, and clients as needed.
- Ability to remain calm and controlled using responsible rationale in dealing with a highly resistant population.
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
- Ability to work well under the pressures of client conflict.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
