About the role
We are looking for an experienced COBOL/Tandem programmer to join the PHASE3 team as a Software Engineer Lead – Tandem Mainframe COBOL. The role involves developing core versions of software applications for sale to external clients, identifying client purchasing requirements, interacting with engineering groups for design changes, and training and communicating with clients on system applications.
Responsibilities- Develop core versions of software applications for external clients.
- Identify client purchasing requirements and technical specifications through Product Management and/or client representatives.
- Interact with engineering groups to assist in design changes to equipment and/or software.
- Train and communicate with clients on systems applications.
- Work on enhancement and support projects for the Product.
- Support FIS solutions and ensure the quality and utilization of FIS products satisfy client needs.
- Recreate, document client issues, and troubleshoot problems to support product quality.
- Strong understanding and solid work experience on COBOL, TACL, and Guardian procedure calls.
- Strong understanding and solid work experience on Nonstop Pathway, SQL/MP, and Tandem Utilities.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with working experience on the above skill set.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently or in a team.
- Experience in documenting SOPs to support daily operations.
- Domain expertise in fintech, especially around brokerage and clearance.
- Nice to have experience in C, C++, SQL/MX, and Non Stop OSS environments.
- Excellent communication skills – able to discuss technical and commercial solutions with internal and external parties and adapt depending on the focus of the discussion.
- Attention to detail – track record of authoring high‑quality documentation.
- Organized approach – manage and adapt priorities according to client and internal requirements.
- Self‑starter but team mindset – work autonomously and as part of a global team.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, computer science or other related discipline, or equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.
