Manager-on-Duty

The role of Manager-on-Duty (MOD) includes leading the airport gateways' front-line supervisory personnel within the assigned functional area and acting as liaison between first level supervisors and senior management. The MOD proactively monitors the staffing levels and the activity of assigned employees to ensure that customer satisfaction, safety, security, quality, and employee relations meet or exceed standards. The MOD participates in the overall Gateway hiring, training, coaching, counseling, discipline, and termination of associates and ensures compliance with Company rules and standards as well as governmental regulations and customer contractual agreements.

The MOD ensures the facility meets budgetary controls and staffing requirements while also ensuring the administration of all policy and management practices are delivered in a fair and equitable manner where all employees, customers, vendors and other third parties are treated with respect. This position may include responsibility for communication between individual customers and the Company. The scope of the job may vary with the size of the operation and its primary line of business.

Essential Duties and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and participates in the warehouse and cargo ramp handling services ensuring each position is covered and all operational requirements are met.
  • Directs and trains assigned Agents. Training includes new employee training and on-going in-service training, including monthly compliance and yearly safety training. Maintains required training records.
  • Implements departmental policy as directed for operations. Advises the Gateway General Manager/Assistant General Manager on policy issues, including making recommendations and decisions as appropriate and developing more efficient methods of operations as needed.
  • Coordinates warehouse and cargo ramp handling service activities with air carrier personnel, gateway management, and representatives of regulatory agencies as required for operation.
  • Participates in the operation and training of various types of equipment, including, but not limited to, k-loaders, baggage tugs and carts, belt loaders, electric carts, lavatory carts, portable water carts, air starts, towbars and portable stairs in and around aircraft. Ensures equipment is maintained in good working order at all times.
  • Ensures compliance with current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and TSA security regulations, business partner, and air carrier rules and regulations, directives and procedures. Implements necessary changes in operations as directed. Attends regular and as-needed meetings.
  • Maintains emergency checklists and supplies.
  • Prepares and submits verbal and written reports related to service activities and agents as required.
  • Updates Multi-User Flight Information Display System (MUFIDS) as required. Coordinates communications between airport, airline dispatch personnel and flight captain, including, but not limited to, information related to manifests, weight/balance, fueling requirements, on/off times, uplift, flight release and weather packages.
  • Handles other business-related responsibilities involving operational recaps, daily reporting, audits, inventory, ordering supplies correcting/updating timekeeping data, and other similar duties.
