Fuel & Lube Truck Driver — Heavy Civil Construction Fuel & Lube Truck Driver — Heavy Civil Construction Build the Equipment That Builds Communities

At Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc., we don’t just build infrastructure—we build life-changing infrastructure. We are a privately owned, employee-owned (ESOP) civil contracting firm based in Jacksonville, Florida.

We specialize in public works, water resources, and site development, with expertise in underground utilities, roadway construction, and related civil infrastructure.

We are seeking a dependable Fuel & Lube Truck Driver to support our field operations by keeping heavy construction equipment fueled, lubricated, and ready to work. This position travels between active project sites to provide routine field service while helping reduce equipment downtime and keep our crews productive.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who works well independently, understands heavy equipment, and takes pride in safety, organization, and reliability.

What You’ll Do
  • Safely operate a fuel and lube service truck between active construction projects.
  • Fuel excavators, dozers, loaders, rollers, articulated trucks, and other heavy construction equipment.
  • Perform routine lubrication, fluid checks, and basic preventive service within the responsibilities of the position.
  • Inspect equipment for visible leaks, damage, or maintenance concerns and communicate findings to the maintenance team.
  • Maintain accurate records of fuel usage, services completed, fluids, and materials used.
  • Restock fuel, lubricants, grease, filters, and other service supplies as needed.
  • Safely reposition equipment a short distance when necessary to complete fueling or service.
  • Follow DOT requirements and company procedures related to vehicle operation, fuel handling, spill prevention, and environmental protection.
  • Keep the fuel and lube truck clean, organized, properly stocked, and ready for service.
  • Coordinate with field supervisors, mechanics, and equipment operators to support project operations.

This position does not transport or haul heavy equipment. Equipment may occasionally need to be moved a short distance when the service truck cannot safely access its location.

What We’re Looking For
  • Valid Class A CDL with a safe driving record.
  • Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.
  • Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
  • Experience operating heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to safely reposition equipment for servicing when necessary.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge of routine equipment lubrication and preventive service.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong communication, organization, and recordkeeping skills.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the assigned reporting location.
  • Commitment to safety, dependability, and professional conduct.
  • Ability to work early mornings and adjust to changing project schedules and locations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three or more years of experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Previous experience operating a fuel and lube truck or servicing construction equipment in the field.
  • Familiarity with Jacksonville, Northeast Florida, and surrounding project locations.
  • High school diploma or GED.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment

This position requires working outdoors in active construction environments and varying weather conditions. Duties may include:

  • Frequently climbing on and around heavy equipment.
  • Walking and standing on uneven terrain.
  • Bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Entering and exiting the service truck and equipment throughout the workday.
  • Working around moving equipment, fuel, lubricants, noise, dust, and changing weather conditions.

Employees must wear all required personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility apparel, work boots, hearing protection, and other assigned safety equipment.
