Position Summary

The City of Dania Beach is committed to employing a talented and diverse workforce. We are currently seeking a Equipment Operator I (BEACH) to join our dynamic Public Services Team. The ideal candidate will perform skilled work in the general and major repair of cars, trucks and other City equipment. Work is performed under general supervision.   • Performs a variety of grounds duties according to area of assignment, e.g., mowing grounds and road right-of-ways, fertilizing, weed-eating, planting foliage, seeding lawns, trimming foliage, replacing sod.
  • Performs general custodial tasks such as picking up debris and cleaning areas in and around shop areas, office buildings, parking areas, and other assigned facilities/grounds.
  • Performs a variety of maintenance duties according to area of assignment, e.g., painting interior/exterior of facilities and equipment, repairing equipment, maintaining athletic fields and courts, addressing safety/road hazards.
  • Operates a variety of light to medium equipment, e.g., mowers, edgers, weed-eaters, backhoes, chippers, chainsaws, blowers.
  • Performs skilled operation of various trucks and light off-road equipment, e.g., tractors, large mowers, grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Performs a variety of duties including operating equipment for excavation, construction and maintenance purposes, e.g., ditches, roads, streets, grounds, parks, construction, utilities systems.
  • Operates various trucks and equipment in the loading, hauling, and transfer of refuse, materials, and supplies.
  • Performs routine cleaning, inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and reports defects, maintenance and repair needs to appropriate staff for resolution.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  • Responds to call-ins in the event or hurricanes or other critical events.
  • Assists in other departments and divisions as directed.
  • Routes traffic with Flagging Technicians.
  • Paints sidewalks; keeps all signs clean and visible.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Some positions require a CDL license for operating a bucket truck for maintenance, inspections, retrofitting, & replacing parts of the streetlights.
  • Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
What's required: (Minimum Requirements)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one (1) year of previous vocational training and work experience in the safe and effective operation of a wide variety of trucks and light maintenance and construction equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s license with overall good driving record required. If driver’s license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days of hire date
What's preferred: (Desired Requirements)
  • Possession of a valid Class “B” CDL driver’s license with overall good driving record may be required
  • Two (2) year of previous vocational training and work experience in the safe and effective operation of a wide variety of trucks and light maintenance and construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of city codes and regulations, state codes and regulations, OSHA regulations
