Bus Driver
Develops, analyzes, maintains, and modifies school bus routes. Responds to and reports on school bus transportation issues as representative for the Duval County School District. These issues may include: traffic accidents, accidental injuries, overloaded/underutilized buses, new school openings and program changes. Contacts citizens, parents, students, bus contractors and operators, school officials and employees, and various governmental agencies as appropriate. May work shift work to cover extended operating hours.
EssentialFunctions
Open Requirements: Ability to read, write and speak English. Some experience in a transportation-related field which included analyzing logistic-related problems preferred. Experience in the field of school transportation preferred.
Promotional Requirements: NALicensing/Certification/Registration: A valid Florida Driver’s License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)- Knowledge of the Duval County School District Transportation policies and procedures
- Knowledge of Duval County streets, sections, and geographical makeup
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong mathematical skills
- Ability to read , understand and apply provisions of school bus provider contracts
- Ability to read, understand and apply Federal, State, and local guidelines, policies, rules, and statutes as they apply to pupil transportation
- Ability to analyze situations quickly and use good judgment in making decisions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with bus contractors and their representatives, School Board employees , parents, and students
- Ability to pay attention to details
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work as a team member on district/department projects
- Ability to perform research and prepare comprehensive detailed reports
