ResponsibilitiesThe DC Material Handler II has proven general knowledge of distribution center (DC) procedures, equipment, and systems through technical and on‑the‑job training and experience. The position’s primary purpose is receiving, filling, and/or shipping products accurately and efficiently. May be assigned all or some of the various warehouse job functions, including but not limited to receiving, order fulfillment, product picking, wrapping and packing, stock replenishment, and customer will‑call.
Operates basic power equipment (i.e., electric pallet, walk‑by rider, sit‑down forklift) to move products around the distribution center.
- Operate basic power equipment (i.e., electric pallet, walk‑by rider, sit‑down forklift) in a safe and efficient manner to pick and process orders and to locate, put away, stack, and move checked‑in products to correct storage locations on a daily basis. This includes stocking, filling bin boxes, facing cartons, checking for product mixing, and rotating product where needed; monitoring stock on shelves or bins;
replenishing stock from reserves; maintaining control of products in reserve stock area or will‑call area. - Receive product by unloading trucks using forklift, pallet jack, electric pallet jack, or by hand.
- Ensure shipments received are in good condition and accurate by inspecting freight for damage and signing freight bills, verifying quantity ordered versus quantity received, checking all shipments against packing lists, and completing necessary paperwork for reimbursements or discrepancies.
- Ensure all required products have verified bar code labels and readable Johnstone stock numbers by scanning products, printing labels, resolving labeling discrepancies, and completing necessary paperwork.
- Fill orders by picking products, packing items into cartons, stacking them in a manner that minimizes shipping damage, entering items into scan gun, and completing necessary paperwork.
- Document the shipment of hazardous materials by labeling cartons correctly and completing necessary paperwork.
- Prepare orders by preparing trucks for shipments; palletizing and wrapping orders; loading pallets and pieces into trucks; placing packing list in last skid; and completing necessary paperwork.
- Maintain current accuracy and efficiency standards and follow all standard operating procedures.
- Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of all warehouse machinery and equipment.
- Maintain a safe work environment by working in a safe manner, following safety rules, and maintaining a clean work area. Promptly report any safety or maintenance concerns to supervisors.
- Always wear protective equipment according to company policies and procedures. Access Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) as needed and when appropriate.
- Maintain required hazardous materials, forklift, and other internal and external certifications as needed.
- Maintain professional communications when interacting with customers and coworkers. Treat all customers and coworkers with a helpful and courteous attitude.
