Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking an organized and detail-oriented person to serve as the Office Assistant in the Mailroom at Jacksonville Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively with multiple parties. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply.

Essential Functions
  • Processes and distributes incoming and outgoing individuals in custody and staff mail.
  • Processes all outgoing individual in custody mail according to the US Postal Service Regulations.
  • Maintains permanent records for the individuals in custody incoming mail concerning monies received.
  • Distributes mail of individuals in custody who have been discharged, paroled, or transferred.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires one (1) year of related office experience.
  • Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 35 wpm.
Conditions of Employment
    • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)).Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
    • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
    • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
    • Required to utilize digital technology,tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
    • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
