KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

REQUIRED:

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, take initiative and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to interact and communicate with district and school staff and the public
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and to develop meaningful reports from that information
  • Ability to assess the effectiveness of programs and activities
  • Ability to develop long-range plans
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments including students, parents and school personnel
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute district-wide events that foster parent and family engagement
  • Ability to create, cultivate, and sustain community partnerships that expand resources and opportunities for students and families
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and after school hours, to attend and support family and community engagement activities
  • Experience coordinating parent/family engagement events
  • Experience interpreting and applying data
  • Knowledge of curriculum, instructional strategies, and resources
  • Knowledge of the NC accountability and testing models

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred
  • 2 or more years in a related position preferred

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months

SALARY: North Carolina Teacher Salary Schedule

FLSA Status: Exempt

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a district-wide parent and family engagement plan in partnership with Title I school site leaders to coordinate major events, district-wide initiatives involving parents, and district-wide parent engagement activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead district-wide events (e.g., family engagement nights, literacy celebrations, back-to-school and resource fairs, and cultural celebrations) that strengthen family engagement and connection to Onslow County Schools.
  • Assist with the coordination of policies and procedures designed to promote and maintain effective relationships and understanding between the school district, parents, and community.
  • Plan and provide regular parental support and engagement activities as specified for family engagement at district and site level.
  • Work collaboratively with the Chief of Communications or designee to design and utilize media to introduce parents to the school district and enhance school/community relations.
  • Implement and monitor a variety of family engagement programs and strategies across Title I schools.
  • Provide technical support to Title I school sites in the creation of a welcoming school environment, such as providing school tours, annual Title I meetings, and orientation sessions for new families.
  • Support Title I schools in developing an outreach strategy to inform families, businesses, and the community about involvement opportunities, policies and programs; provide guidance to schools in the development and enlistment of volunteers.
  • Identify, create, and foster partnerships with community organizations, businesses, faith-based groups, higher education institutions, and civic and military agencies (including the USMC School Liaison Program) to expand resources, services, and opportunities available to Title I students and families.
  • Support existing family resources at Title I schools to connect families and help them support their child's learning, build families' strengths and capacities, serve as a hub for the community, and offer help without stigma by mobilizing the public and providing community resources to help children and families in need.
  • Direct the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records, correspondence, and files related to assigned services, activities and operations.
  • Plan and coordinate training for parents on how to access site, district, and community information.
  • Design and facilitate parent/family learning opportunities, such as workshops, informational sessions, and resource nights, that build parents' knowledge and skills to support their child(ren)',s academic growth and development.
  • Attend district, community, and collaborative partners meetings to promote the effective involvement and inclusion of stakeholders in the decision‑making process.
  • Communicate and collaborate with administrators, district personnel, and outside organizations to coordinate activities and programs, and exchange information, model district standards of ethics and professionalism.
