We are seeking a science teacher at NC Correctional Institution for Women, Raleigh, NC (Wake County). This position offers a rewarding opportunity to support students pursuing high school equivalency diplomas. Success requires flexibility, strong instructional skills, and a strong work ethic. The Science Teacher delivers core science content through individual, small group, and whole class instruction, to offenders aged 18 to 22 pursuing high school equivalency diplomas, providing targeted remediation and enrichment as needed.
Reporting to the School Principal, the Science Teacher is a core member of the academic team responsible for implementing the school’s vision and goals. The teacher delivers science curriculum to diverse student groups within a medium-custody male correctional facility.
- Designing lessons and instructional materials with clear learning targets, measurable goals, and alignment to state standards for students with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturity and functioning at a wide range of academic levels
- Providing effective direct group and individual instruction in core science content that meets student needs and supports academic goals resulting in successful transitions within the academic school, the prison system, and back into society
- Developing and implementing a classroom management plan supporting school-wide behavior standards
- Collaborating with all school personnel regarding students and best instructional practices

- This is a full-time, permanent and continuing position (40 hours per week) with state benefits. This is a year-round position.
- Compensation for school education positions is based on the NC Department of Public Instruction’s Salary Schedule, approved annually by the NC General Assembly. Pay is determined by years of experience and education level in accordance with the most current legislation.
- Salary Grade:
Based on the current NCDPI Salary Schedule which can be accessed at https://www.dpi.nc.gov/districts-schools/district-operations/financial-and-business-services/compensation-public-school-employees#State Salary Schedules -1388 - Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required.

Documented experience in providing effective science instruction at a variety of levels through the use of diverse instructional strategies;
Documented experience utilizing data gathered through formative and summative classroom assessments, both formal and informal in nature, to identify, diagnose, evaluate, and modify instruction to meet the learning needs of individual students;
